BIDEN EXECUTIVE ORDER ON AI IS STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION BUT CONGRESS MUST ACT TO PROTECT CHILDREN

Washington, DC – This week, President Biden released an Executive Order on the Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence. John Pizzuro, CEO of RAVEN and former Commander of the NJ Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, issued the following statement:

“Raven has been sounding the alarm for some time now on the dangers AI poses to our youth. We have presented to committees on the Hill about the extent of the threats and called on Congress to act to protect children. The Executive Order is a good first step but we need Congress to enact legislation to make a real difference in protecting children from the bad actors who use AI as a weapon.

It is time for Congress to get the Child Protection bills such as KOSA, STOP CSAM, SHIELD, EARN IT, and REPORT out of Committee. Technology is advancing quickly, and our law enforcement needs adequate funding and support to hold perpetrators accountable. Raven has been working on legislative text to share with lawmakers in order to facilitate this much needed legislation. We look forward to continuing to support both chambers of Congress to forward policies that protect our children.”
